The alternative right movement is a complicated phenomenon which is best characterized within the vein of Fascism and how it primarily evolved as a through refutation of Classical Liberalism and Communism. In this guise, the Alt-Right is, in my opinion, adequately thought of as neo-fascist. It is built as a refutation of the modern forms of Liberal and Communist materialism and proclaims a pathway for future human development as a ‘third way’. That is, a return to traditional hierarchical forms of social organization which were more ‘natural.’
The current legal and cultural changes regarding the status of women in society plays into this narrative directly.
The principal argument I want to address is this one, the status of females in society is a biological pre-ordained imperative and so the modern ‘regression’ of women liberalization is a destined for societal bankruptcy. The sources of Alt-Right blogs and messages boards using this argument are many, but I’ll focus on Social Matter for now. Here are some choice quotes I’d like to address (more…)
Feminism is now the rallying cry of the modern liberal. It is a term which is so inseparable from the leftist stigma that it pains the mind to think of it being separate. To be a feminist is to be for the welfare state, to support social democracy, to be against racial injustice, to be a supporter of multiculturalism, and much else. The feminist label, more so than any other in modern discourse has been subverted by the reigning political ideologies of our time. Due to its tremendous impact on our lives and its incredible success it is worthy of a full treatment here on PlatoShrugs.
Feminism is moving into the mainstream, it is no longer on the fringe. As a result of this, it’s going through the inevitable metamorphosis of actually recruiting ‘fringe supporters’. That is, those people who take extremely moderate political opinions on everything, but at the end of the day will still say “yeah I believe in some of the things feminists fight for.” For any serious ideology, those semi-supporters make up the bulk of membership. These people aren’t going to be protesting for you, donating money to your cause, or even thinking much about it. (more…)
Internet feminists are generally a very prickly, insular group. As far as the ideological groups I’ve participated in (from Fascists, Communists, Anarchists, etc.) I’d say they are by far the most unwelcoming and unwilling to talk about their beliefs on a level beyond five minute sound bites (wage gap, rape in colleges, etc.). For the most part, fringe ideological groups are very tight nit and insular, but they will surprise you by being very eager to discuss their beliefs on a deep, atomic level.
Feminism is not a ‘fringe ideological’ group. They are very close to becoming mainstream and accepted in popular culture. As a result they feel as though any discussion on the basis of their movement makes you an enemy, I.E. a bigot, a racist, a misogynist, or a man’s rights activist. Internet feminists believe that the pre-suppositions of their political world are axiomatic; I regret to inform them that they are certainly not. They have to participate (on equal footing) with all other competing ideological groups. (more…)
As far as ideological buzzwords are concerned, “Check Your Privilege” is right up there with “Rape Culture” in the hierarchy of excellent, beautifully conceived drivel. I am in awe of phrases like this, they are exactly what this blog has always been about, power through ideas. The genius of these phrases is that they do a large number of complicated things in merely a few words. They do the following, (more…)
